Bills, receipts, promissory notes, accounts, indentures, and some business correspondence of William M. Gordon, major in the Confederate States army, James M. Wiggins, and Robert L. Hunt of Granville County, N.C., in their capacities as administrators, guardians, and business agents. The papers, now arranged chronologically, originally were grouped under the following subject headings: accounts, receipts, bills, and notes of Wiggins as the guardian of Lucy F. Jenkins, in the 1840s; papers of Wiggins as agent for R. T. Pelham, 1850-1854; papers of Wiggins, executor of the estate of Augustine Harris, early 1850s; miscellaneous papers of Wiggins of Granville County, N.C., and Texas and power of attorney to Hunt, 1854; letters from Wiggins in Rusk, Tex., to Hunt in Oxford, N.C., 1855-1858; papers of Hunt in the 1850s and 1860s including indentures, deeds, accounts, receipts, letters, apprentice papers for freedmen, 1865-1866, and from Robert L. Hunt & Brothers, Oxford, N.C.; receipts, vouchers, and explanations of Wiggins, administrator of the estates of Thomas Wiggins, Celia Wiggins, and Nancy Wiggins, chiefly 1840s; bonds due James Ellis, chiefly 1840s; receipts, vouchers, accounts, inventories, and bond of administrator of Wiggins, administrator and guardian of the estate of L. C. Higgs and guardianship of Leonard C. Higgs, 1850-1854; receipt of Hunt as treasurer of the trustees of the Oxford Colored Baptist Church, N.C.; papers from Hunt & Wiggins (store?) of Lexington, N.C., early 1850s; receipts of Hunt as executor of the estate of Ransom Strowd; Confederate items of Gordon including letters of recommendation from the Virginia Military Institute, and his commission as Major and superintendent of the Hillsboro Military Academy, 1862; and Gordon's certificate of confirmation.
