Richard Grist (fl. 1827-1830) owned and operated what was likely a large business, probably in general merchandising, provisions, the shipping of cotton and lumber, ginning and bagging, bridge tolls, and credit and note collecting, in Beaufort, Pitt, and Craven counties, N.C.

The collection includes a volume of unitemized accounts, records of a mercantile operation, presumably operated by Richard Grist. The account records are partly pasted over with scrapbook materials. An incomplete index is included.
