Abstract William Barry Grove was a North Carolina Federalist leader and member of United States House of Representatives, 1791-1803. The collection includes letters from Grove to James Hogg of Hillsborough, N.C., concerning state and national political issues, including redemption of national debts, establishment of new post roads, indignation against Great Britain, 1794; Jay's treaty with England, 1795; French spoliations, 1798; increased American armament, 1798; admiration for Charles Cotesworth Pinckney; and the contest between Adams and Jefferson for the presidential election, 1800.
