Papers accumulated by Hanes, Winston-Salem manufacturer and state senator, as member of the North Carolina Commission to Study the Statutes Relating to Visiting Speakers at State-Supported Educational Institutions (Speaker Ban Study Commission). Included are transcripts of testimony at public hearings held by the commission, August-September 1965; papers pertaining to the succeeding special session of the General Assembly; items concerned with subsequent regulations of the University of North Carolina Board of Trustees and a lawsuit contesting the regulations; and notes, speeches, and other related papers of Hanes.
