Samuel Huntington Hobbs, Sr. (1870-1865) was a leading Sampson County, N.C., farmer and politician. He was active in the North Carolina Growers Association and the National Farmer's Union. He served as Sampson County's Democratic representative in the state senate, 1929-1931. He was the father of rural sociologist Samuel Huntington Hobbs, Jr. (1895-1969).

This collection is comprised of the papers of Samuel Huntington Hobbs (1870-1965). Most of the papers are concerned with his work with farm organizations or with legislation relating to agriculture. Series 1 is correspondence mostly with politicians and merchants. This series also includes government documents, primarily concerning agricultural legislation in which Hobbs had interest. Series 2 contains other papers, such receipts, poems written by Hobbs, and telegrams about financial matters.
