William H. Howard of Noise, Moore County, N.C., owned and operated a general merchandise store and tanning business along with John Howard.

The collection includes account books, 1838-1900, from the general merchandise store and the tanning business of William H. Howard and John Howard. Other items, 1849-1913 and undated, are receipts, promissory notes, and purchase orders relating to these operations.
