J. L. King and Company was a tobacco manufacturer of Greensboro, N.C. The company partners appear to have been J. L. King, G. H. McKinney, and J. G. Brodnax, Jr. (possibly John Grammar Brodnax, Jr., b. 1868).

The collection consists of a ledger relating to J. L. King and Company, tobacco manufacturer of Greensboro, N.C., 1892-1896; two letters, 1894; and two notes relating to S. J. Pegram and Company. The ledger contains records of company expenses, bank accounts, and accounts with customers located from New York to North Carolina, Alabama, and Georgia. There is an alphabetical index to customers at the beginning of the volume.
