Information
William Picard Jacocks (1877-1965), native of Bertie County, N.C., was a physician. He was a graduate of the University of North Carolina (BA), the University of Pennsylvania (MD), and Johns Hopkins University (Doctor of Public Health). After 1914, Jacocks was associated with the Rockefeller Foundation and spent much of his career in Asia, including India and Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), working on eradicating hookworm infections and other health issues. He retired in 1942 and moved back to Chapel Hill, N.C., where he was active in alumni affairs and family genealogy research.

Scope and Content

This series chiefly contains the personal and professional correspondence, letters, and other papers of William Jacocks. Papers from 1914-1942 relate to his work with the Rockefeller Foundation, and his work eradicating hookworm infections in India, Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) and other places. Papers after 1942 relate to Jacocks's retirement, University of North Carolina alumni affairs, his experiences in Asia, his work with the Rockefeller Foundation, business, and family matters.

This subseries contains files on individual members of the Jacocks family as compiled by William Jacocks for his manuscript "The Descendants of Thomas Jacocks." Papers include correspondence with or about each person and their descendants, clippings, photographs, and genealogical notes.

These volumes contain correspondence, reports, articles and related reprints, clippings, photographs, and other items produced or collected by William Jacocks in connection with his work with the International Health Division of the Rockefeller Foundation, 1916-1938, chiefly in India and Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) regarding disease and hookworm infections. Also included are notes, lectures, and other course material from Jacocks's time at Johns Hopkins Medical School.
