| Abstract | Levin Lane was a planter probably of Pender and New Hanover counties, N.C.. His father was Ezekiel Lane (1773-1834), and Levin's son was William Walter Lane (1831-1901), physician of Wilmington, N.C. Materials include bills of sale for slaves, 1802-1825, most of whom were owned by Ezekiel Lane, and letters, 1856-1858, most of which were addressed to William Walter Lane. The letters are newsy and personal in nature. Several of them relate to William's travel in Europe during this period. Also included are an 1885 tintype of a Mrs. Harrelson, apparently one of William's patients, and modern photographic copies of portraits of Levin Lane and family. Other items include an undated map of a city block in Wilmington and an apparently unrelated 1847 Columbus County, N.C., land grant to a Joseph Nye. |
