Abstract John Sidney Algernon Ashe Legare (born 1835) was a native of Charleston, S.C., and a cousin of Hugh Swinton Legare (1797-1843). The collection is a typed transcription of "Memories from the Life a Ne'er do Weal," anecdotes of his childhood in Charleston, S.C., and on a trip to Washington, D.C., and New York, N.Y., some of which mention Hugh Swinton Legare.
