The collection is a personal record book kept by Caroline Swain Long, 1858-1860, while whe was living in Athens, Ga. An elegy for Long's daughter, Ellen (Ella) Rosetta, who died 1 July 1859, is the main entry in the book. Other entries are lists of clothing, expenses, and names and birth dates, which may be of slaves or family members. The first seventy-one pages in the book comprise a printed catalog for Cyrus J.
