Howard Haines Lowry (1878-1922), Quaker stockbroker of Pennsylvania and California, husband of Margaret Erwin Holt Lowry (d. 1938), and father of Margaret Holt Lowry Butler, who edited the letters from her father to her mother during World War I and published them in "Letters to Tweeters: A memorial to Howard Haines Lowry and Margaret Erwin Holt Lowry" (1980).

Chiefly letters, 1918-1919, from Howard Haines Lowry to Margaret Erwin Holt Lowry while he was serving as athletic director with the Y.W.C.A. in Champagne and Toulon, France. The letters discuss the activities of both Lowrys--he on the war front, including his feelings as a Quaker involved in the war effort, and she with the family at home. In addition, there is one 1917 letter in which Howard Lowry, stockbroker with Bobnight & Company, Philadelphia, advised a client about selling stocks. There are also several 1922 letters, chiefly from Howard Lowry in Pasadena, Cal., where he had apparently resumed his brokering career, to his father and mother in Philadelphia about Quaker, family, and business matters. There is also a 1925 letter from a friend to Howard Lowry's father about Howard's death. Also included are research materials used by Margaret Holt Lowry Butler in preparing "Letters to Tweeters," and other items relating to the publication and distribution of the book.
