The collection includes letters (some of which are typed transcriptions), September 1917-October 1918, from Malloy in France to his mother, Mrs. Theodore F. Malloy, in Asheville, N.C., describing his experiences as a bayonet instructor and with troops during battle in Alsace, at Chateau-Thierry, and the Argonne. Also included are a few letters from Malloy to his mother before going to France; letters from others describing the gallantry of his service and the circumstances of his death on 22 October 1918; and letters of condolence to Mrs. Malloy. |

The collection includes letters (some of which are typed transcriptions), September 1917-October 1918, from Malloy in France to his mother, Mrs. Theodore F. Malloy, in Asheville, N.C., describing his experiences as a bayonet instructor and with troops in Alsace, at Chateau-Thierry, and the Argonne. Letters detail daily experiences and sentiments for family and home in western North Carolina. Also included are a few letters from Malloy to his mother before going to France; letters from others describing the gallantry of his service and the circumstances of his death on 22 October 1918; letters of condolence to Mrs. Malloy; and a biographical sketch.
