Willie H. Maverick, originally from San Antonio, Tex., attended the University of North Carolina from 1865 to 1868 and saw the closing of the University during Reconstruction.

The collection contains four letters, 1866-1867, of Willie H. Maverick to his mother while he was a student at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C.. In one letter, dated 9 September 1867, he criticised the lack of initiative in North Carolina. Other papers include bills and receipts.
