Scope and Content
The collection contains miscellaneous papers of the McClure and Kerns families of Mecklenburg County, N.C. Included is a deed of trust, 1795, from Matthew McClure to the University of North Carolina. Also a complaint, 1849, filed by John Irwin against P. J. Wilson and H. F. McKnight; and a permit, 1861, for "Kerns and boy" to pass to Magnolia, N.C. There is also a letter, 1866, to James Harper Kerns from Sallie A. Fite and Harriet A. Walker in Jackson City, Ark., telling of hard times and homesickness.
