Montford McGehee (1822-1895) was a Person County, N.C., planter, legislator, and North Carolina Commissioner of Agriculture, 1880-1887. He was married to Sally Polk Badger.

Mary McGehee was Montford McGehee's widowed sister-in-law.

The collection includes albums and recipe books of female relatives of Montford McGehee including Mary Polk McGehee Hughes, Anne Jane Mollan, and Annie Skinner; poems and Greek translations by Lucius Polk McGehee (1868-1923), University of North Carolina professor; and a few scattered deeds and legal papers of Montford McGehee and clippings of articles written by him. There is also a series of scattered letters to Mary McGehee discussing family affairs.
