Abstract
Tim McLaurin, who grew up on the outskirts of Fayetteville, N.C., began writing while in the Peace Corps in Tunisia, 1982-1983. His first novel was published in 1989. McLaurin died of cancer on 11 July 2002. The collection chiefly contains manuscript drafts of McLaurin's novels, The Acorn Plan (1989), Woodrow's Trumpet (1989), Cured by Fire (1995), and Last Great Snake Show (1997); his long narrative poem, Lola (1997); and his memoir, Keeper of the Moon: A Southern Boyhood (1991), including edited typescripts and author's galleys. Also included are manuscripts of unpublished works; some letters written while McLaurin served in the Peace Corps in Tunisia, 1982-1983; and other correspondence.

Biographical Note

Tim McLaurin grew up in Fayetteville, N.C. He graduated from high school and enlisted in the Marines near the end of the Vietnam War. When the war ended, he was discharged and returned to Fayetteville to marry his high school sweetheart and settle down as a Pepsi-Cola salesman. Three years later, he started a traveling reptile show that he took to carnivals and fairs. After one year of life on the road, McLaurin started attending classes at North Carolina State University and then at North Carolina Central University. Eventually, he transferred to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to study with Doris Betts and Max Steele and to complete his degree.

In 1989, McLaurin was diagnosed with a rare form of bone marrow cancer and underwent a successful bone marrow transplant in 1990. During this time, he lived in Chapel Hill, N.C., and taught writing at Duke University and North Carolina State University.

McLaurin died on 11 July 2002.
