Biographical Note

Hector James McNeill was a student at the University of North Carolina. The UNC Alumni History states that McNeill received his A.B. in 1855 and died in 1860. Kemp P. Battle's History of the University of North Carolina calls him a Presbyterian preacher and a colonel.
