Ben M. Moore (circa 1850-1913) was a prosperous farmer and Raleigh landlord. He grew cotton on his farms in Youngsville Township and St. Matthew's Township and owned stock in cotton mills. He owned many pieces of property in Raleigh and where he lived on Hillsboro Street.

Four personal letters, contracting bids, and estate settlement papers of Ben M. Moore. Three of the letters are from Moore to his sister. One letter was written by Moore to his sister while he was a student at Trinity College, N.C. (later Duke University). In the letter, Moore told her not to worry about his being subject to temptation for "there is not a Grog shop in five miles of the place..." and of the worst boys: "several of them have confessed religion."

Another letter is concerned with the gift of some game that Moore sent to a friend. In another letter to his sister, Moore announced his engagement and detailed wedding plans. There are five bids, dated 1912, from contractors offering to build Moore's house on Hillsboro street in Raleigh. Also included are papers related to Moore's estate, including the report of the appraiser on inheritance taxes, an estate, and the final accounting of the estate.
