| Abstract | The North Carolina Arts Council was created in 1964 by executive order of Governor Terry Stanford to strengthen North Carolina's creativity, invention, and prosperity. In 1967, the North Carolina Arts Council became a statutory state agency. It operates under the aegis of the North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources. The Council makes information, technical assistance, and over 1,000 grants a year available to non-profit organizations and artists in North Carolina. It also oversees the distribution of state and federal funds appropriated for support of the arts. The collection contains posters advertising exhibitions, concerts, festivals, lectures, seminars, tours, and dance performances in North Carolina and around the United States. |
