         NORTH CAROLINA HOME INSURANCE COMPANY POLICIES

Abstract:      Printed policies of various unrelated individuals,
           chiefly insuring homes in Raleigh and eastern North
           Carolina against fire, issued by the North Carolina
           Mutual Insurance Company, 1847-1861, and the North
           Carolina Home Insurance Company, 1874-1889.  One
           policy, 1856, insured the life of Christopher, a slave
           who worked as a house servant and waiter in
           Charleston, S.C.; the report of a physician's
           examination of the insured is included.
