                            Inventory

Abstract: Bettie Lea Reid Overman of Reidsville, N.C.,
oldest daughter of Hugh K. Reid and Caroline Graves
Reid, was born 25 April 1858. On 27 October 1885, she
married Charles Hamilton Overman (d. 1913), with whom
she had one child, Reida, who married Robert D. Gapen.
Correspondence, clippings, a photograph, and other
material documenting the life of Bettie Reid Overman.
Most of the letters are to Bettie from family and
friends, chiefly in Charlotte, N.C., congratulating
her on her upcoming marriage to Charles Overman,
offering sympathy in 1889 upon the death of her infant
son, and discussing other family matters and daily
activities. Some of the letters are addressed to
Charles. Also included are newspaper clippings
           containing biographical information about various
family members, calling cards, and a school report of
Bettie Overman from Reidsville Female Academy. There
are also modern prints of two photographs from the
1890s, one of the Fetzer and Overman Drug Store in
Reidsville and another of Bettie Reid Overman.
