The collection is a bill of sale, July 1839, documenting the purchase of a 17-year-old male mulatto slave by John W. Suttle from Weeks Parker in Philadelphia County, Pa. Attached to the bill of sale is a cartoon, circa 1861-1865, depicting contraband slaves escaping to Union forces at Fort Monroe, Va., during the Civil War.
