Abstract:      James N. Patterson, a planter, was the second
           largest slaveholder in Orange County, N.C., in 1850.
               A volume with James N. Patterson's name, along
           with others, on the fly leaf, containing miscellaneous
           records from Orange County, N.C., including a ledger
           for lumber and provisions, 1839-1863, and birth and
           death dates of slaves, 1793-1864; and a letter, 1846,
           from M. A. E. Rhodes, Fayette County, Tenn., to her
           uncle, James N. Patterson, about family matters.
