Abstract Diary, 1863-1864 and 1911, of Mary E. Fries of Salem, N.C., who married Rufus L. Patterson (1830-1879) in 1864. The earlier
volume covers the period of Fries's engagement. Daily entries record visits from her fiance, friends, and relatives, activities
at the Presbyterian and Moravian churches, meetings of the Relief Society, and news of Confederate soldiers, as well as her
wedding preparations. Both her fiance and her father, Francis Fries, were manufacturers. Entries in the later volume, covering
July-December 1911, deal with daily activities, travels, and visits.
