Information
David Bradley Perry (fl. 1831-1891) was the son of Isabella Burroughs Perry and David Perry, who came to North Carolina from Connecticut sometime prior to his marriage in 1799 and lived in Williamston. David Bradley Perry was a planter of Beaufort County, N.C. He had one son, Thomas, and three daughters, Elizabeth, who married John Gray Blount; Isabella, who married David Miller Carter; and Mary, who married Rufus W. Wharton. Wharton of Salem, N.C., was a lawyer, officer in the 21st North Carolina Regiment, the 1st Battalion of Sharpshooters, and the 67th North Carolina Regiment during the Civil War.

Scope and Content
The collection contains scattered family and business correspondence, chiefly 1831-1891, of David Bradley Perry and his sons-in-law, Rufus W. Wharton and David M. Carter. The letters relate to a variety of family concerns, including news from Perry relatives in Connecticut in the 1840s, the settlement of estates, and Civil War events. There are also military papers, 1862-1865, of Wharton relating to the 4th, 21st, and 67th North Carolina regiments including orders, reports, commissions and Wharton's parole and oath of allegiance. Later items include a few accounts of David M. Carter, 1875-1879; genealogical correspondence, 1881-1882; and letters from Sarah Lindsay Carter in Europe, 1889-1891. There are also a few legal documents including two deeds, to land in Beaufort County, N.C., 1788 and 1819; the result of a court action, 1831; and other items.
