Walter Everett Philips (1860-1939) was a farmer, teacher, and business owner of Rocky Mount, N.C., and Edgecombe and Nash counties, N.C., and a student at Frank Wilkinson's Tarboro Academy, the University of North Carolina, 1878-1881, and Harvard University.

The collection is the recollections of the boyhood of Walter Everett Philips in Rocky Mount, N.C., and in Edgecombe and Nash counties, N.C., including attendance at Frank Wilkinson's Tarboro Academy, visits with relatives in Tennessee, and student years at the University of North Carolina, 1878-1881.
