Scope and Content
The collection is a record book of the Philomathean Society in the Alamance community, Guilford County, N.C. The club debated questions of contemporary public events and classical history. Included are minutes, names of members, and topics discussed. Discussion topics included Henry Clay, treatment of slaves and Native Americans, the annexation of Texas, the regicide of Charles I, and other questions of history and politics.
