Information
William H. Platt (circa 1847-1915) of Port Jefferson, N.Y., ran away from home and joined the United States Army in August 1862 at age 15. He served as a private with the 5th and 146th New York Infantry regiments in northern Virginia and was discharged in June 1865.
William's brother, Jesse K. Platt (born 1846?) served with the 127th New York Infantry Regiment in the area of Yorktown, Va., and Coles Island or Hilton Head, S.C.
