The collection is a volume containing an alphabetical index to an unidentified ledger, probably of a bank, in Raleigh, N.C., circa 1870-1890s, listing individuals, partnerships, businesses, institutions, governmental units, and internal accounts. Individuals listed include Kemp Battle, R. H. Battle, George W. Mordecai, Paul C. Cameron, Matt Ransom, Walter Clark, James M. Waddell, and others. There are also entries for partnerships and businesses including Raleigh Gas Light Company, North Carolina Railroad, Deep River Manufacturing Company, Baltimore Steam Packet Company, and Farmers and Merchants National Bank. There are also institutions and governmental units including the Augustine Street Normal School, the Catholic Church, the Y.M.C.A., the City of Raleigh, North Carolina Penitentiary, Franklin County, Insane Asylum of North Carolina, and the United States Tax Collector. Among the internal accounts are bills payable, bills received, commission accounts, consignment accounts, exchange accounts, expense accounts, future's margin, capital account, capital fund, private account, interest account, stock account, and suspended accounts.
