| Abstract | Peirson Ricks was an author, advertising agent, and native of Winston-Salem, N.C. The collection includes correspondence, writings, memoranda, clippings, drawings, and photographs of Ricks. Approximately half the collection consists of correspondence, 1925 and 1940-1950, between Ricks and his relatives, literary agent Jacques Chambrun, and publishers. Included is correspondence with Burroughs Mitchell of Scribners' relating to the publication of Ricks's novel, The Hunter's Horn, in 1945. The remainder of the collection consists of typed drafts of short stories and novelettes by Ricks, memoranda, clippings, drawings, and photographs. |

Information
Pierson Ricks (1908-1950) was an author, advertising agent, and native of Winston-Salem, N.C. Ricks was the oldest of the four children of David Absalom Ricks and Jessie Pierson Whitaker Ricks. He graduated from R. J. Reynolds High School, Winston-Salem, N.C., attended the University of North Carolina, worked at Hanes Knitting Company and at advertising agencies in Philadelphia, Pa., New York, N.Y., and Winston-Salem. He also wrote for the Winston-Salem Journal and worked for the Office of Strategic Services in Washington, D.C., during World War II. As an author, Ricks wrote about 50 stories and novelettes, of which 20 were published. A novel, The Hunter's Horn, was published by Scribners' in 1947.

Scope and Content
