Biographical NoteProfessor of Political Science and founder of the Coastal Carolina Press Andrew MacKay Scott (b. 27 November 1922) graduated from Dartmouth College in 1946. He began graduate studies at Harvard University in September of that year and received a Master of Arts degree and a Master of Public Administration Degree in June 1949. In June 1950, Scott received his Ph.D. in Political Economy and Government. He taught at schools including Dartmouth and Haverford Colleges before joining the faculty of the University of North Carolina in 1958, where he taught for over 30 years before retiring. Scott founded the Coastal Carolina Press in 1999 in Wilmington, N.C., while retired, upon discovering that there was no publishing company that focused on the history, traditions, people, and places of the coastal area. Scott authored numerous books and articles and was often cited. He was married to Anne Firor Scott, distinguished women's historian. Scott died in April 2005.
