| Abstract | Joshua Sharpe (fl. 1747-1750) of London was solicitor for the Hudson's Bay Company and his practice was largely in colonial American legal business. The collection includes petitions, letters, memoranda, and affidavits (mostly draft copies) related to the colonial government of North Carolina. Fourteen items, 1747-1750, are papers of the London solicitor Joshua Sharpe concerning a dispute over the apportionment of the North Carolina General Assembly. Six items, 1756-1760, concern Henry E. McCulloh's difficulties with the Crown and John Carteret, Earl Granville, over the terms under which he had been granted lands. Two items, 1760-1761, concern a dispute between Governor Arthur Dobbs and the General Assembly over choosing a colonial agent in London. |
