Archibald Aaron Tyson Smith was a lawyer who practiced in the Courts of Equity and Pleas and Quarter Sessions of Cumberland, Robeson, Bladen, and Columbus counties, N.C., chiefly 1830s through 1850s. Smith received his undergraduate and graduate education at the University of North Carolina.

The collection includes legal papers of Archibald Aaron Tyson Smith including bills of complaint, bills of injunction, petitions, bonds, deeds, scattered letters, briefs, and notes. There are also miscellaneous items including scrapbook pages, 1878-1880; poems, 1847-1850s; and an inventory of assets of an unidentified store, 1890s.
