Frederic Stafford (died circa 1857) and members of his family resided in Orange, Guilford, and Alamance counties, N.C. His son was Thomas Stafford.

The collection includes correspondence and scattered papers of Frederic Stafford and of his family in Orange, Guilford, and Alamance counties, N.C. The bulk of the collection consists of letters received, 1844-1879, from relatives in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, and Texas, concerning family news and local conditions. Represented are the Wells family of Morgan County, Ill.; Thomas Stafford and his family of Clay County, Ill., Neosho County, Kan., and North Springfield, Mo.; and the Moffitt family of Thomasville, N.C. Many letters were written to Nancy (Stafford) Shoffner, wife of Michael Shoffner, of Alamance County, N.C. There are a few Civil War letters written from North Carolina and Virginia by civilians and soldiers. Volumes include miscellaneous accounts, 1831-1857, of Frederic Stafford and a small booklet of home remedies. Also included are notes and receipts.
