Margaret Ida Neville Stafford was born in Orange County, N.C., in 1884. After receiving a nursing degree from the Women's Medical College in Philadelphia, Pa., she was employed around Burlington, N.C., as a private duty registered nurse. She married John Everett Stafford, a widower with children, at some point in the 1920s and subsequently stopped working as a nurse. She died in 1969.

The collection includes a day book recording the nursing assignments, 1915-1918, of Margaret Ida Neville Stafford, who worked as a private duty registered nurse around Burlington, N.C. Each entry includes the patient's name, medical diagnosis and outcome, attending physician, the amount of time that Stafford spent caring for the patient, and her fee.

A brief biographical sketch and family history of Margaret Ida Neville Stafford that was written in 2003 by Frances A. Campbell, Stafford's great-niece, is also included.
