Majors works by Stem include The Animal Fair (1960), Entries from Oxford (1971), Senator Sam Ervin's Best Stories (1973), and Thad Stem's Ark (1979). Stem is featured in Timothy B. Tyson's memoir Blood Done Sign My Name. The collection contains correspondence and literary materials of Thad Stem. There is substantial correspondence with Jonathan Daniels, Paul Green, Bernice Kelly Harris, Hiram Haydn, and Sam Ragan as well as letters from family members, friends, fans, and editors. Writings include typescript drafts and proofs of Stem's books; drafts of editorials, short stories, poems, and other shorter writing by Stem; and drafts of an unpublished novel. Primarily letters from family members, friends, fans, and editors. There is substantial correspondence with Jonathan Daniels, Paul Green, Bernice Kelly Harris, Hiram Haydn, and Sam Ragan. There is correspondence between Stem and his step-son, William Anderson, and Williams's wife Lide. There are also letters to Stem's wife Dety, most of them dated after Stem's death.

Arrangement: alphabetical by title followed by short compositions and unpublished novel drafts.
Typescript drafts and proofs of Thad Stem's books. There are also drafts of editorials, short stories, poems, and other shorter writing by Stem as well as drafts of an untitled unpublished novel.
Note that manuscript titles were derived from Stem's original labels.
