Information
Sterling A. Stoudemire was born in Concord, N.C., in 1902. He was a long-time professor of Spanish in the Department of Romance Languages at the University of North Carolina. Stoudemire entered the University of North Carolina in 1919, and graduated with a B.A. in 1923, earned his M.A. in 1924, and his Ph.D. in 1930. He joined the faculty at UNC in 1924 as a graduate assistant and was chair of the romance languages department from 1949 to 1964. Stoudemire retired in 1973, but contunied an active role in the department and his field. He died in Chapel Hill, N.C. in 1992.
