Abstract Charles W. Sydnor (fl. 1863-1867) of Frederick County, Va., served as a surgeon in the Confederate army. The collection includes letters from Sydnor while serving in field hospitals of the Army of Northern Virginia, to his fiancee, later wife, Mary Louisa Davis (born 1843), of Lovingston, Nelson County, Va., describing his activities and his feelings for her. Postwar papers and letters relate to their life in Frederick County, Va.

The collection includes letters from Charles W. Sydnor, while serving as a Confederate surgeon in field hospitals of the Army of Northern Virginia, to his fiancee, later wife, Mary Louisa Davis describing his activities and his feelings for her. Letters chiefly relate to the progress of their courtship, but also mention battles, hardships of marches, and casualties. Postwar papers and letters relate to their life in Frederick County, Va.
