John Warwick Thomas (1800-1871) was the founder of Thomasville, N.C.

The collection includes scattered letters and papers, 1848-1893, of John Warwick Thomas and other members of the Thomas family, including his sister Sallie Smith and her husband S.L. Smith. Topics generally concern family matters and news, education and school events, and business dealings. Business papers include bills, estimates, and correspondence related to operating a steam saw mill and other ventures.
