The collection includes scattered letters to Thomas, concerning the Glen Anna Female Seminary at Thomasville, N.C., a saw mill, and other business matters; letters to Thomas's sister Sallie and her husband, S.L. Smith, about family and other matters; and other family correspondence.

The collection includes scattered letters and papers, 1848-1893, of John Warwick Thomas and other members of the Thomas family, including his sister Sallie Smith and her husband S.L. Smith. Topics generally concern family matters and news, education and school events, and business dealings. Business papers include bills, estimates, and correspondence related to operating a steam saw mill and other ventures.

Other correspondents include H.E. Ronnsaville, Thomas M. Hampton, Charles Manly, T.M. Jones, W.W. Holden, Ralph Gorrell, M.E. Thomas, P.C. Thomas, P.E. Zink, and John C. Booth.
