| Abstract | William Lindsey Thornburg, a farmer from Randolph County, N.C., served in the 38th North Carolina Infantry Regiment during the Civil War. The collection is a volume containing records of exemption applications for Confederate conscripts maintained by Thornburg in 1864. Many of the records in the volume have been covered over by newspaper and other clippings pasted into the volume. Some clippings have dates circa 1890, though it is unclear whether all of the clippings are from the same period. The clippings include poetry, short stories, and occasional print images of buildings in North Carolina and South Carolina. |
