Abstract Dan McCarthy Thornton was a Lieutenant with the 6th Marine Division during World War II.
The collection is typescripts of World War II letters from Thornton, written from the southern Pacific, Central Pacific, Okinawa,
Guam, and Bingtao, China, to his parents in Norfolk, Va. The letters discuss battles, camp life, inhabitants, financial and
personal affairs, and other matters.
