| Abstract | Robert Tweed was a merchant in New Orleans, La., and New York, N.Y. The collection chiefly contains letters, 1843-1861, to Tweed from his relatives William and Clara Young, Scottish immigrants and planters of Jefferson County, Miss. The letters discuss family and neighborhood news, religion, temperance, and politics. A few were written while the Youngs were on a return trip to Scotland. Also included is a typed transcription of a two-volume diary, 1874-1898, of Louisa Vanuxem Tweed (1822-1899), wife of Robert, recording domestic matters and weather in Jefferson County. |
