The collection includes business correspondence, invoices, and receipts of James E. Walter from purveyors and shippers in Baltimore, Md., Washington, D.C., and elsewhere in Virginia, about the purchase and shipment of and payment for merchandise. There are also letters, 1875 and undated, concerning the needs and achievements of Walter's daughter, Cora, a student at Mary E. Simpson's School of Front Royal, Va.
