Abstract:      Joseph Frederick Waring (1832?-1876) was a
           Confederate Army officer.
               Miscellaneous papers, including a letter, 12
           November 1863, from J. F. Waring of Savannah, Ga., to
           friend William Washington Gordon (1834-1912) about his
           marriage and the progress of the war; diary, 1864-
           1865, of Lt. Col. Waring of the Jeff Davis Legion,
           chiefly while he was on court martial duty in
           Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina;
           pamphlet, 1882, and clippings, 1854-1867, chiefly from
           Savannah and Washington newspapers concerning pre-war
           sectional issues, military and political events during
           the war, and a justification of Henry Wirz's actions
           at Andersonville prison.
