The collection includes land grants, 1782-1802, containing names of the persons involved and brief descriptions of the Wilkes County, N.C., tracts concerned. Also included are commissions, 1804-1868, for local offices of Justice of the Peace, County Peace Commissioner, and County Militia. There are also annual returns for the Wilkes County Regiment of the Ninth Brigade of the North Carolina militia, 1801, which contains statistics on men and arms.
