Biographical Information
Norvell Winsboro Wilson (1834-1878) was a Baptist minister in Chapel Hill and Hillsborough, N.C., 1861-1867; Farmville and Richmond, Va., 1867-1875; and New Orleans, La., 1877-1878. Wilson was born in Franklin, Pendleton County, Va., and was ordained in the Baptist ministry around 1858. He married Sallie F. Betts of Black Walnut, Halifax County, Va., June 1861. Their children were Ernest, Knox, Wins, Lilie, Daisy, Kurtz, and Littell.

Scope and Content
The collection includes the intermittent diary, 1862-1878, recording pastoral visits, Baptist conventions, social and community events, some war news, weather, and cash accounts of Norvell Winsboro Wilson. There is also a scrapbook of clippings relating to Wilson's career and writings, a biographical sketch of Wilson, and a few scattered Wilson family letters and papers. Also included in the collection is a group of miscellaneous family letters from members of the Scott and Pearman families of Virginia, 1842-1869. The letters have no apparent relationship to the rest of this collection, some of which are written by family members, possibly mulatto or part Indian, who had gone to Ohio and then Canada, describing their life and feelings to their relatives or friends in New Kent County, Va. Among the correspondents in these papers are Lucey Pearman, Elizabeth Porter, Peter Lennard, Eliza Pearman, Robert Ellett, Ann Taylor Geddy, William F. Pearman, and William Scott.
