| Abstract | Hermine Kean Bulwinkle married Solomon Anderson Wolff (1861-1954) in 1890. They were both faculty members at Gaston College, Dallas, N.C. The collection is chiefly correspondence, 1890, between Hermine Kean Bulwinkle of Charleston, S.C., and Solomon Anderson Wolff of Dallas, N.C., before their marriage. These are love-letters that convey news about their own activities and those of their respective relatives and communities. Other family correspondence and a diary kept by Hermine Bulwinkle during the Charleston earthquake of 1886 are included. In addition there is a volume of memorabilia, 1940-1955, compiled in honor of the Wolffs' 50th wedding anniversary, including pre-1940 photographs and letters, an account of their lives, and genealogical materials. Other items are programs, student records, and photographs. |

Information
Hermine Kean Bulwinkle (1868-1942) of Charleston, S.C., was educated at Charleston Female Seminary and taught German, French, and art at Gaston College, Dallas, N.C., 1890-1910. She was married Solomon Anderson Wolff in 1890.
Solomon Anderson Wolff (1861-1954) was born in Adams County, Pa., and educated at Pennsylvania (now Gettysburg) College. He taught business and Latin and served as president of Gaston College, Dallas, N.C., 1884-1910.

Scope and Content
