Religious studies scholar Michael J. Zogry conducted interviews for the Enduring Voices Project through a folklife documentation grant from the North Carolina Arts Council. The collection includes typed transcripts and videotapes of interviews with individual members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians in Cherokee, N.C. Interviewees include herbalist Amy Grant Walker, musician Walker Calhoun, storyteller Jerry Wolfe, and woodcarver Amanda Crowe. Biographical Note

Born 16 April 1966 in Washington, D.C., religious studies scholar Michael J. Zogry grew up in Raleigh, N.C. Zogry received a B.A. in religious studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1989 and a M.A. in history of religions from the University of Chicago in 1991. In 1997, he was C. Phil at the University of California at Santa Barbara. Through a folklife documentation grant from the North Carolina Arts Council, Zogry began the Enduring Voices Project, videotaping interviews with members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians in Cherokee, N.C. Zogry was also granted permission by the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians Tribal Council for the documentation project, as a well as dissertation project in December 1996. In addition, he has conducted ethnographic and archival research on the Qualla Boundary. He is a visiting instructor at Duke University and North Carolina State University.
