By the end of 1924, Okeh executives realized the need for a distinctive
sales category for the over forty folksongs scattered throughout the company’s
pop series. In 1925, Okeh employed the title “Old Time Tunes,” to categorize
the music, equivalent to the company’s Race Records and Foreign Language
genres. Okeh used the name in subsequent publicity material for many years.
